Happy Christmas folks. This one is a few years old now. The song itself is probably 8(?!) years old. This was one of the first songs our old band The A-Sides wrote. We had so few songs at the time that we would play this at every show regardless of the time of year because we didn’t have enough other material. I originally recorded it for a charity compilation but lost track of it. My parents reminded me that “this is going to be my big hit” so I better get it back out there. I recorded it right before I started recording as sun airway. Anyway, hope you enjoy it, it’s a funny song but there’s something about the quality of it that I like. See you next year everybody!

FINAL SHOW OF 2011 ANNOUNCED!

Has been a crazy year for sure, but before I go into complete hibernation mode we’ve got one more show on the calendar. Been wanting to do something together for forever, so super excited that we’re playing with the brilliant War On Drugs at Philly’s new (and awesome looking) venue Union Transfer. Tickets are available now. This show should be one giant Philadelphia lovefest. Get into it!

…AND WE’RE BACK!

Hello everyone,

Sun Airway has returned from our first European tour. Overall, it was pretty amazing for us and among the most unforgettable experiences of my life. Thanks so much to everyone that came out or helped out, couldn’t have done it without you. And biggest thanks of all to the euro SA lineup, which included Jonathan Nigro on the drums and Daniel Armitage on the bass. Daniel normally plays keys and samplers but made the switch for this tour so we could slim down for travel purposes. Jonathan learned all the drums (which includes somewhat incomprehensible electronic drum pad business) in about 2 weeks and totally tore it up since Patrick had to be an adult and stay home. These dudes put in heaps of effort in a short amount of time and were the best travel companions anyone could ask for, truly. Also gotta thank Miranda for busting out some sweet sleigh bell solos on stages across europe and keeping us in check when she wasn’t in a dramamine-induced slumber in the back of the van.

All that said, it’s nice to be home. Time to get seriously down to business on another album and probably not tour for a while. While we were over there, Daniel reminded me of a cover I did a bunch of years back that I didn’t even have a copy of. He just sent it to me and I thought I’d share it here since even though it was released under the a-sides name, I made it at home in my room in more of the sun airway spirit. It was part of a compilation of Philly bands covering other Philly bands and I chose one of my all-time philly favorites, “Expressway to Your Heart” by the Soul Survivors. Enjoy!

GREETINGS FROM EUROPE.

Hello all, apologies for the lack of updates. Europe has been pretty spectacular so far. Berlin was beautiful, Luzern (pictured) has us all ready to move there and the crowds in Italy have been particularly insane, gratzi! We had a minor fuse meltdown in Bologna but Vincenzo from Grinding Halt (the promoters here) SAVED US and took us to a weird, crazy electronic shop in Rome that we never would’ve been able to find on our own. Also huge thanks to Renata in Germany and Killian and Radio 3Fach in Switzerland for being so amazing and helpful. Tonight is our last show with our gracious hosts thus far, Architecture in Helsinki, near Venice and then a much needed couple days off. Then to Lisbon, Paris, London, Amsterdam, Denmark, Sweden, back down to Austria and then home again. Gotta go drink lots more espresso before we leave Italy. See you all soon!

Sun Airway has set up a page (along with tons of other groups, bands, individuals) to raise funds for radio towers in Central Africa as part of Invisible Children’s Musician Coalition to help end this war. Watch the video below…it’s extremely compelling. Especially so for music fans and anyone who has known the power of radio. It’s still extremely powerful there and can help get messages to child soldiers in the Lord’s Resistance Army. This is serious stuff, our goal is extremely modest and I know we can reach it. Here’s a remix of Junip’s “Without You.” I hadn’t heard the song until they approached me about a remix but I fell in love with the original. I tried to make the remix more of a collaboration and added some vocals of my own. Always nice to do a duet with someone without them knowing! Anyhow, the EP is available as of yesterday from Mute. You can purchase the whole EP (which includes additional remixes from Portugal, the man and Warm Ghost) on iTunes.
